Singapore Food Festival 2011 - "Curry and Spices"

Variety is the spice of life. Visitors to the Singapore Food Festival 2011 (SFF) can expect to be treated to a diverse range of dishes hailing from the various ethnic groups that make up Singapore's multicultural population. Curries and spices are the theme of the party, which will run for a period of ten days, from 15 July to 24 July 2011 at various locations islandwide.

Tantalise your tastebuds and warm your bellies through savouring spice-infused local dishes and curries at the Singapore Food Festival Village, the largest food and beverage event ever at the Singapore River. The SFF Village will showcase culinary delights and local favourites from 60 food stalls and more than 130 participating Food and Beverage establishments in the surrounding malls.

SFF 2011 also aims to engage intrepid food lovers on a multi-sensorial level through a variety of smaller scale eventswhich includes an opportunity to be a part of an attempt to set a new Guiness World Record. The highlights are as follows:SFF Culinary Adventures - Tiffin Cruise (15 - 24 Jul 2011)

Time:4pm - 10pm (45 minutes per cruise)

Embarkation/Disembarkation Venue: Singapore River Cruise, Liang Court Jetty

Price:S$ 38 + 7% GST (includes souvenir tiffin carrier and meal)

Passengers on the bumboat cruises will be served freshly made Naan (Indian flat bread which is very similar to Pita) along with their choice of meal served in a tiffin carrier. Tiffin carriers are multi-tier lunch boxes which were first used in India. They were also used in Singapore and Malaysia in the 50s and 60s. The tiffin carriers that will be given out on this cruise are beautifully adorned with motifs of Singapore's National Flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim Orchid.

Participants will be guided by multi-award winning Chef Milind Sovani, SFF 2011's Food Consultant as they discover the use of spices in Indian cuisine, the type of kitchenware used and watch a cooking demonstration by Chef Milind before settling down to lunch.

SFF Culinary Adventures - Spice and Canapes in the Sky (16, 17, 23 & 24 Jul 2011) Time:5pm to 7pm

Venue: Singapore Flyer
Price: S$ 108 + 7% GST (includes 2 rotations on the Flyer, hands-on canapes making session, snacks and beverages)

Participants will be taught by multi-award winning Chef Milind Sovani, SFF 2011's Food Consultant, in this sky-high culinary experience. They will learn how to use spices to enhance flavours, colours and nutritional value of canapes. After the hands on session, they will sit back and enjoy catered canapes paired with wine.

Longest Table @ Little India (23 July 2011) Time:6pm to 10pm

Venue: Race Course Road, Little India

Buffet Dinner Price: S$ 100 (exclusive seating at the Guiness World Record Table) / S$ 80

Participants can select from a buffet spread of more than 50 dishes along with free flow of beverages. Indian Restaurant Association of Singapore (organizer) intends to set a new Guiness World Record at this event for the longest table, which must exist as one table with one table top. Measuring at 120m vs the previous record of 99m, participants could partake of the opportunity to be a part of this record setting event.
