Located at the corner of Circular Road and Lorong Telok, Le Comptoir is a Creperie and Cocktail Bar that serves as a great all-day dining spot that transforms into a watering hole when evening falls. The brainchild of the Parisian duo behind Ô Batignolles on Club Street, Antoine and Marie Rouland, Le Comptoir is a chic reinterpretation of a traditional French crêperie.

Ham & Cheese, Prosciutto & Pears, Chicken & Lemon, Smoked Duck & Orange platter - Le Comptoir, Singapore
Prelude Platter @ $23 Ham & Cheese, Prosciutto & Pears, Chicken & Lemon, Smoked Duck & Orange

Le Comptoir offers a choice of four Prélude platters each comprising a mix of different flavours on a platter to pique the palate whilst the mains are being prepped. During a recent lunch tasting, we were served a platter of canapés that must have been created for meat lovers. I started with the light tasting Prosciutto & Pears Blinis, followed by tangy Chicken & Lemon crêpe cones (middle of the plate), tasty Smoked Duck & Orange Blinis before finishing up with the classic Ham & Cheese roll. Amongst the 4 varieties on this platter, I enjoyed the Ham & Cheese roll as well Prosciutto & Pear Blinis best for their light flavours.

Poiré Bouché Brut, Cidrerie de la Brique - Le Comptoir, Singapore
Poiré Bouché Brut, Cidrerie de la Brique @ S$ 7 per glass / $26 per bottle

Le Comptoir has a nice selection of ciders and as it was such a warm afternoon, we couldn't resist indulging in a glass of cool Dry Pear Cider. A beautiful golden-hued drink, the pear cider was refreshingly fruity without being excessively astringent. A Must-Try at Le Comptoir.

Khao San Road: Pan-fried Prawns, Egg, Tomatoes, Garlic, Soya, Mango & Mint (egg broken to coat the ingredients) - Le Comptoir, Singapore
Khao San Road @ $20 Pan-fried Prawns, Egg, Tomatoes, Garlic, Soya, Mango & Mint

Ever the Francophile, I love crêpes, especially Galettes de Sarasin (savoury buckwheat crêpes). I've falled in love with this dish since having the tastiest Galettes de Sarasin topped with Roquefort and Spinach whilst seated on a cobblestone street on a sunny and breezy September afternoon in Eze. The folks at Le Comptoir have created some interesting variations in addition to the traditional flavours. Drawing their inspiration from the cuisine in Asia, one of their most popular flavours is named Khao San Road (after a backpackers district in Bangkok). We broke the raw egg yolk to coat the ingredients with it. J loved this flavour and though I loved the chunks of mango refreshing mint leaves and crunchy soy bean sprouts, I thought the prawns were a little dry. An interesting mix of tangy, savoury and refreshing flavours, this combination is great for seafood lovers, especially those with lactose-intolerance.

Ménage à 5: Emmental Cheese, Ham, Egg, Mushroom & Tomato - Le Comptoir, Singapore
Ménage à 5: Emmental Cheese, Ham, Egg, Mushroom & Tomato @ $16

I preferred the cheekily named Ménage à 5 which was a combination of most of my favourite traditional toppings. Though this wasn't the most exciting combination on the menu, it was comfort food for me. It reminded me of a crêpe that I bought as a student on our way to visit Sacré-Cœur.  Must-Try at Le Comptoir.

Coco Chanel: Pear, Chocolate, Chantilly & Almonds - Le Comptoir Singapore
Coco Chanel: Pear, Chocolate, Chantilly & Almonds @ $11

We then moved onto dessert crepes. Coco Chanel sounded really alluring. It was a lovely combination of stewed pear, thinly sliced almonds, fresh cream and chocolate sauce. Terribly addictive, this was gone in no time. The Coco Chanel is a Must-Try!

Normandy Landing: Homemade Salted Butter Caramel - Le Comptoir Singapore
Normandy Landing: Homemade Salted Butter Caramel @ $8

I cannot resist Salted Caramel and so we tried a Normandy Landing. I love how they've thought of such creative names for their crepes here. A buttery and smoky caramel combo, we finished this crepe pretty quickly too even though we were feeling pretty full. This is also a Must-Try! We could see why Le Comptoir was packed on a hot, humid afternoon with some guests even willing to sit on the terrace with the sun blazing down on them.
