Breakfast at My Awesome Cafe
Last weekend, a bunch of us checked out a new cafe along Telok Ayer Street with an interesting name - My Awesome Cafe!
My Awesome Cafe is located within a pre-war conservation shophouse that used to house the Telok Ayer Chung Hwa Free Clinic. I was told that the cafe had only just opened earlier that week. I observed as contractors unobtrusively took measurements and replaced temporary lights with more permanent ones. I was told to come back this weekend to see the cafe after all the finishing touches have been made.
Scrambled Eggs with Ham & Cheese @ S$6.50
I added on some Avocado on the side that I guess they forgot to charge me
for & decided to waive the cost of the avocado when I enquired.
Feeling hungry, I opted for Scrambled Eggs with Ham & Cheese. I contemplated adding on some bread but decided on a side of Avocado instead. The cafe was pretty busy that afternoon but the staff were upbeat and friendly even as they found their footing. True to its retro decor, the food was served on vintage amber glassware. There were generous shavings of premium ham and grated cheese on my plate. Unfortunately, the scrambled eggs were just a little firmer and less creamy than I would have liked. Perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed as the cafe was pretty full.

Blend of coffee beans from Columbia, Brazil & Sumatra
I needed my usual coffee fix and ordered a cup of Latte. One of the owners, Franck, who was flitting amongst tables ensuring all was well told us that the beans were roasted by a low profile local roaster. Apparently, the roaster is so low profile, he would like to remain a mystery. Hmm. Ok, I can respect that! The coffee beans were roasted a little darker than my preference and so I wasn't too hot on the slightly bitter taste.

I was told that the Hot Chocolate was pretty good so I shall have to try that when I next visit.
