Stewed Pork Knuckle from Han's Bak Kut Teh @ East Coast Lagoon Food Village

A friend, DB, and I had a discussion about pork knuckles recently. He was sceptical about the Stewed Pork Knuckles that I was raving about from East Coast Lagoon Food Village. Anyway, all this discussion about pork knuckles got me craving them as the last time I ate them was about 2-3 months ago when SH and I were out cycling at East Coast on a Sunday.

I am currently taking a break between jobs which afforded me a little more time for myself to do some shopping and to have lunch with my mum. It was a hot and humid Friday afternoon, unbearable weather to be consuming steaming hot stewed pork knuckles in the sweltering heat at the hawker centre even if there was shelter and fans blowing at us. I bought the Stewed Pork Knuckle for consumption in the cool comfort of home a short drive away.

What I love about the Stewed Pork Knuckles from Han's is that the flesh is consistently moist and tender even if you request for a leaner piece. Considering this hawker stall has been famous for Stewed Pork Knuckles for as long as I can remember, I find it heartening that the people running the stall are willing to fish for a leaner piece upon request.
The thick gravy is chockful of flavour of a perfect balance of saltiness from the soy sauce and  warm flavours from the spices and aromatics. The gravy is perfect for drenching hot steamed rice grains with or mixing into a bowl of plain rice congee (Mum and I love eating the pork knuckle with plain congee). This is definitely a MUST-TRY!
