Su Korean Cuisine @ Boat Quay, Singapore

CC and I had lunch at Su on a Monday afternoon as they have competitively-priced lunch sets and daily specials.

We chose a table outdoors by the river (only recommended when there is high tide) so that we could partake of the river scene to create a relaxing start to the work week. It was quite therapeutic to sit by the river and watch the bumboats go by. There was a passing boat filled with students, who waved at us. We waved back and could hear their excited laughter from where we sat. This was a nice start to the week and I wished I had taken a picture of the boat.

Side Dishes (Banchan).JPG

Side Dishes (Banchan) @ Su (included with the meal)

As is the norm with almost all Korean restaurants, the side dishes are included with the meal.

Appetizers @ Su

I love Korean side dishes especially the pancakes, seasoned spinach, baechu kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage) and seasoned soy bean sprouts.

Korean Style Dumpling Soup.JPG

Korean Style Dumpling Soup $14

CC ordered the Korean Style Dumpling Soup. She gave me one of her dumplings to try. Whilst the soup and dumpling was tasty, I found the dumpling's skin to be too heavy. It had a very thick dumpling skin which weighed heavily in my stomach. I don't know if Korean dumplings are supposed to be so floury but from what I've read in recipes, the dumpling skin is apparently supposed to be thin.

Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup.JPG

Ginseng Chicken Soup $16

I ordered the Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup which was the day's special (ie. you pay $16 instead of $24 for the whole chicken). I thought it was a very good deal but its not very often that one finds a tasty bowl of Ginseng Chicken Soup. Fortunately, the soup here was very tasty with sufficient ginseng added. I've been to some places where the soup tasted pretty bland for lack of seasoning and ginseng. I love Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup because the chicken is stuffed with glutinous rice, chestnuts and red dates. The glutinous rice would have been fully infused with the flavours of the soup that it was cooked in and the chestnuts added a nice texture to the rice.

The Ginseng Chicken Soup is definitely a Must-Try if you're in the vicinity!

PS: The service staff here are very attentive and even offered to portion out our dishes but we told them that we could do it ourselves. This is one of the rare places in Singapore with decent service.
