A little over a year after the opening of their first store at Holland Village in Singapore, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar has expanded with its second outlet at Upper Thomson. Taking over the space that was previously occupied by Stevo's (where a friend of mine took the heat challenge with their level 5 buffalo wings and we thought he was going to need an ambulance), Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar serves up healthy gourmet pizzas a la minute.

I was invited to Crust for a casual "Meet, Greet & Eat" session. I arrived just on time for the pizza-making competition as I was a little held up at work and so I missed the tasting of their best selling pizzas in their Australian stores. R told me that the Moroccan Lamb Pizza was good. I shall have to try this when I pop by one of their outlets.

4 Teams' Efforts in this Pizza Topping Competition

The competition involved brainstorming a mix of ingredients to top the pizza, a name for the creation and a tagline for the pizza. A representative from each team has to top the pizza under the supervision of award-winning Creative Chef Peter Augoustis, who kept reminding us that less is usually more because if we placed too much topping, we can't fully savour the taste of the thin crust pizza or of the other ingredients. Makes sense.

Each pizza was assessed by peers on Name, Tagline, Technique, Appearance and Flavour. The winner was "An Oriental Devil's Nightmare - Wicked to the Crust". I loved it because it was spicy and yet not overwhelmingly so. Besides, the name of the pizza and the tagline was both humourous and witty. A win-win combination!

Crust's philosophy is to deliver restaurant quality pizza to homes and to use fresh ingredients to achieve optimal results.  In addition to pizza delivery, dine-in spaces are also available at their stores for customers to consume their freshly baked pizzas. Pizza delivery is currently only restricted to areas that are fairly close to their outlets. They are planning to open a few more branches in Singapore in 2012 to improve their reach. This pizzas at  Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar are worth a try if you are in the vicinity or live fairly close to an outlet.
