Lunch @ Pu Tien Kitchen, Vivocity

Nibble & Scribble and I made last minute plans for lunch at Vivocity. We initially planned to eat at Food Republic. However, when we walked to our favourite stalls ( Claypot Laksa and Fried Hokkien Mee), we were disappointed to discover that the operators seemed to have changed. We decided to have lunch at Pu Tien Kitchen (located within Food Republic, Vivocity) instead.

Pu Tien 莆田 is the name of a coastal city in the Fujian Province of China. The people from this city are known as Heng Hwa/Hing Wa and they form a minority Hokkien community in Singapore.

Heng Hwa Mee Sua, Pu Tien Kitchen
Heng Hwa Mee Swa @ S$5.50

We were both starving so we ordered a Fried Mee Swa ( Mee Swa/Sua: Wheat Vermicelli aka Longevity Noodles) to fulfill my ceaseless carb cravings. This is a dish of soft wheat vermicelli that has been fried with pork belly, clams, prawns, mushrooms, vegetables and Tau Pok (fried beancurd puff). It is topped with roasted peanuts and deep-fried seaweed strips before serving. The rich stock that was used for the gravy had been absorbed by the Mee Swa (wheat vermicelli) and Tau Pok resulting in very tasty spoonfuls of this dish. The roasted peanuts and deep-fried seaweed strips added a crunchy texture to the dish. This is definitely a MUST-TRY!

Deep-Fried Duck with Yam, Pu Tien Kitchen
Deep-Fried Duck with Yam @ S$12

I love yam and duck so I couldn't resist ordering this dish of Deep-Fried Duck with Yam. It was brilliantly executed! Biting into the crispy brown crust, one is delighted to savour the succulent flesh of the duck coupled with the soft and fluffy yam paste. It could do with a little more salt as the duck was just a tad bland. This is worth a try if you like both duck and yam .

Stir-Fried Kailan with Beancurd Skin
Stir-Fried Kailan with Beancurd Skin @ S$9

This is another of our favourite Heng Hwa dishes. I love the soft yet slightly chewy texture of Heng Hwa-style beancurd skin and how it absorbed the well-seasoned gravy. The gravy helped to counter the slight bitterness of the crunchy Kailan (Chinese Kale/Chinese Broccoli). I'm not too big a fan of sweet corn or carrots but with the tasty sauce smothering them, they were more bearable for my picky palate. This dish is a Must-Try!
